Budget 2011: George Osborne Says Government Will Fund An Extra 40,000 Apprenticeships
In his Budget for growth, Mr Osborne said £180m would be made available to fund 40,000 apprenticeships, plus 10,000 higher-level training places. These places would provide additional capacity to support young unemployed people.
Janie Burt, Managing Director, JCA,said:
“It is good news that the Government is taking steps to help the young unemployed; however, it would be great to open this up across all age groups as many of the older people that have been out of work since the economic downturn also have a lot to offer employers. Older people have great life skills and remain calm and level headed when faced with adversity.
She continued “We have been successfully training apprentices to work as Activity Leaders at our outdoor activity centres and have seen in a surge in applications this year. Ninety-one per cent of our apprentices complete their training with many of them going on to become valuable members of our team.”
