CBI Comments On Government's New Programme For Neet 16-17 Year Olds
The CBI today commented on an announcement by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, of a new programme designed to help 16-17 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEETs).
Neil Carberry, CBI Director for Employment & Skills policy, said:
“It is good news that the Government has responded to business pressure to ensure that 16-17 year olds are included when the Youth Contract launches in April.

We still need to see urgent action in schools to minimise the risk of young people becoming ‘NEETs’ in the first place, through better careers and study advice and improved business-school links.CBI Responds To Education Secretary's Proposals On A-levels CBI Responds To Sir Michael Wilshaw's Speech On Literacy Levels Among Young People CBI Welcomes National Numeracy Campaign CBI Responds To Government Announcement On Apprenticeships CBI Responds To This Year's GCSE Results CBI Reacts To This Year's A-Level Results CBI Calls For Automatic Opt-in To Triple Science GCSE Goverment Publishes Response To The Wolf Review Of Vocational Education Universities Must Embed Employability Skills In Course Structures - CBI / NUS
“It is right that private and third-sector providers are tasked with delivering this initiative on a payment-by-results basis, but they will need to work closely with local authorities, schools and other public agencies to make sure the scheme delivers.”
