HBAA supports drive for talent

The HBAA has launched the ‘HBAA National Placement Scheme’ to support future talent in the meetings & events and business travel sector.

The initiative is championed by the association’s newly appointed chairman, Chris Peacock and reinforces the body’s premise to drive professionalism within the sector.  The HBAA National Placement Scheme comes into effect immediately and is supported by the UK’s key universities offering event management related degrees.

Feedback from the association’s membership supports the adoption of the scheme across lead hotel booking agents, venues and independent and hotel chains alike.

Chris Peacock, HBAA Chair said, “When my company, Conference Care, was looking to bring on a graduate we found the calibre of the post graduate students unsurpassed.  We went on to speak to the careers services at the universities to understand the industrial placement process and saw that there was a need for a standard approach by an association such as the HBAA”.

The HBAA scheme will offer each student a full year certified industrial placement along with the benefit of the association’s respected programme of events and:

•  An insight of the events industry from both venues and agents perspective
•  Meaningful, measured and valuable placement
•  Provide HBAA members with a motivated member of staff, with future employment potential
•  All placement providers sign up to an HBAA code of practice to take part
•  Raise the profile of association members to universities, academic organisations and students as a valid and rewarding career path
•  Open new routes to future human capital for HBAA members

The placement scheme will culminate with a project based competition to find the HBAA Student of the Year Award.  Manchester Metropolitan, Leeds Metropolitan, Hertfordshire, Coventry, Plymouth and London Metropolitan Universities are all working in partnership with the HBAA to support the initiative.

Chris Peacock, continued, “We are delighted to continue to support the industry and drive the fight for future talent.  We anticipate up to 20 students in the first year and look forward to increasing this as we progress through the years.”
