Jestico & Whiles' Latest Success In The Education Sector

A team lead by Jestico + Whiles has won a design competition for Lambeth E-ACT Academy and Fenstanton Primary School.

The project, on two sites near Tulse Hill in London combines the rebuilding of Fenstanton Primary School for 638 children, and the creation of a new 1100-place Academy for sponsor E-ACT to be known as City Heights Academy. Shared facilities including sports pitches and a pavilion will be located on a second site close by.

Jestico + Whiles’ successful design provides two distinct but linked buildings, each with its own entrance. The solution gives each school an individual identity, but unites them as a coherent whole which was an important part of the client brief.

Associate Director Ben Marston said: “The design competition, held in the new six-week timescale with weekly client presentations, represented a significant challenge. Accordingly we kept our design solution simple and are naturally delighted with the outcome.”

The project is being procured through the Academies Framework for London Borough of Lambeth as the client.  Jestico + Whiles is working with contractor Carillion; the second team in the competition was Balfour Beatty working with John McAslan and Partners.
