Oundle Athlete Ranked Third Nationally

At the recent open meeting at Watford, Archie secured his placing for 3000 metres with a time of 8:53.17, the 9th fastest recorded time in the UK at U15 level.

Archie, who has enjoyed running for seven years, is a member of Corby Athletics Club. Over the summer, Archie won the County Schools 1500 metres, came 2nd in the Mason Trophy and broke a club record competing in the English Schools event where he was placed 11th. He also won the U15 County 3000m, the U15 Midlands 3000m Championships, and came 3rd in the U5 National 3000m Championships.

Archie’s PB of 4:12.71 in 1500 metres knocked sixteen seconds off the Oundle School record. Archie commented, “I am very pleased with my success so far and I hope that I can expand on it in the next few years, with the aim of one day competing for Great Britain.”

Over the next few weeks, Archie will be racing in the British Cross Challenges, a series of national cross country races in Milton Keynes and either Liverpool or Cardiff. Head of Athletics, Ros Goatly commented, “This has been an outstanding season for Archie and fully deserved. He has worked hard alongside his coach Bill Boyd and has proved that he has the maturity and ability to compete with the very best in the country. He is an excellent role model and has been able to balance his school and sports commitments admirably.”
