Randstad Education's Sen Sports Event Proves An Incredible Success

A special educational needs sports event, designed to inspire and engage the region’s children, took place on 28th June at Manchester’s Indoor Athletics Arena. Organised by the Manchester branch of leading UK and global education staffing specialist, Randstad Education, the event brought young people together to make new friends and enjoy the benefits of healthy lifestyle activities. The day consisted of a fun packed morning of activities, including javelin and target throw, and culminated with a presentation where participating children were awarded certificates, medals and trophies.

The sports day, held at Manchester’s famous Sportcity, accommodated wheelchair users and all ability levels. Randstad Education arranged for teams from 16 SEN schools throughout Greater Manchester to compete at the event which was specifically designed, in partnership with Sportshall Associates, to ensure everyone could take part, regardless of age or ability.

Martin Hopkins, business manager at Randstad Education comments; “This is the first time we have organised an event of this scale and the response we have received has been overwhelming. Schools not only have to balance a full curriculum with limited finances, but head teachers are also faced with confusion and uncertainty around the future of school sports coordinators. This event allowed the pupils to meet other young people outside of their locality and will help the schools to organise future competitions. The launch of this free of charge event has therefore been very much welcomed by the local community who appreciate our approach to enriching the education experience for everyone requiring a specialist education provision.”

Pat Derbyshire, head teacher at Ewing School, added; “In all the years I’ve been at the school I’ve never known a group of pupils come back so excited and pleased with themselves. To see the joy and sense of achievement from this group of pupils was absolutely tremendous.”
