Students Must Be Supported In University Life - Youngminds

Commenting on today’s report by the Royal College of Psychiatrists ‘Mental health of students in higher education’ YoungMinds Director of Campaigns, Policy and Participation, Lucie Russell said:

"The report from the Royal College of Psychiatrists highlights the vital importance of providing support to students as they navigate university life away from families and friends within the context of stressful financial situations and worries about future employment.

"The early years of adulthood are a challenging experience and as the report says early intervention when crises occur for young people prevents mental health problems becoming serious entrenched illness in many cases. The concerns about cuts in education affecting counselling services are timely and should alert educational institutions to the vital importance of providing support and crisis intervention for young people at a crucial stage in their development to adulthood."
