Top opportunity at Top Model show

24 hair and make-up students from The Iver Academy – who chose vocational training over a university course – gained valuable experience in the highly competitive fashion industry when they worked behind the scenes at Top Model UK, the number 1 top model search competition held at the Hilton Hotel in London.

Led by the show’s creative director Christine Vidler, a renowned hair and make-up artist and a tutor at The Iver Academy hair and make-up school, the team created an astonishing 1,080 looks in 36 hours for 180 models from all over the world.

“Working with models from all over the world is hugely challenging for our graduates, but an amazing opportunity,” said Christine. “We work very long days but it’s all very rewarding and exciting. It’s an extremely valuable experience for the students as it gives them an insight into what the fashion industry and working backstage on a catwalk show is all about.”

Christine is a BBC-trained hair and make-up artist with 35 years experience in the fashion and TV and film industry and 17 years teaching, who has worked with Kate Moss, David Beckham, Naomi Campbell, George Clooney and Dame Helen Mirren to name but a few. She is a firm believer that a vocational course is the most effective route for students keen to gain a foothold in world of film, TV and fashion.

“While doing a degree may demonstrate intelligence and motivation, it’s not always the best route to a dream job in the highly competitive creative industries, where a vocationally-focussed course presents a more effective route to employment,” said Christine.  “Invaluable work placement opportunities like this one with Top Model is only possible because The Iver Academy tutors are all professionals currently working in the business with all the experience, knowledge, up-to-date skills and insight that that entails.

“Vocational training is the only way to learn from professional makeup artists currently working in the industry.
